LESSON 4: SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO TEACHING
The focus of the said approach is the students, and from the word itself systematic, should follow a step. First in the line are the instructional objectives, for we all know that we can’t do such topic successfully if we don’t set goals for us to gain. And we should also consider the needs and interests of every learner in setting such objectives. Next is the choice of appropriate methods in which we think is effective. Then, choosing appropriate experiences, relating the topic to the real life situation helps the students understand easily what is said. And we should also make sure that the experiences used would fit to the level of the learners. Then, select materials, equipment and facilities, to deliver the topic effectively. Then, assign personnel roles. If ever the teacher can’t manage to tutor the slow learners, it is possible for them to ask assistance the fast learner, and have this so called partner learning. Then, implement the instruction, in implementing we should be specific to avoid confusions. Then, evaluate outcomes, we should also assess the learning of the learners for us to know if the goals was attained or achieved. Finally, is to refine the process, now if we think that the materials, the strategies used is effective, we should develop it to mold another better learners in the future.
LESSON 8: TEACHING WITH CONTRIVED EXPERIENCES
Contrived experiences is said to be an edited experiences. Contrived experiences make use of some aids, such as models, specimens, mock-ups, objects. It could also use games and simulation as well.
As I read the whole chapter there is really a need to adapt and use such approach for some reasons. First, we can minimize the use of time and less of expenses, for instance, when your topic is all about planetarium, you can use a small scaled planetarium and bring it inside the classroom for an effective learning, this way can save time because aside from going out and witnessed the real one this is just a waste of time and a waste of money. Second, we can overcome difficulties of size, because a real planetarium is very impossible for us to hold it with our bare hands. In connection with this, a small scaled one is worth the time, space and money. Third, this can develop learner’s abstraction, in such way that given proper distance of the planets in the planetarium, learners possibly imagine the arrangements of the planets.
The most important thing for us to remember when we make us of models and mock ups are to make them as close as we could to the real things they represent.
LESSON 12: THE POWER OF FILM, VIDEO AND TV IN THE CLASSROOM
In my learning about this topic the film, video and TV are powerful instructional tools. When they are used appropriately and moderately. Too much use of the said is dangerous. However, misuse and abuse of their use in the classroom and even at home has far reaching damaging effects in the development of learners imaginative and thinking powers and sensitivity to human life. There should always be a limitation. The film, video and TV are powerful in the sense that these makes the teaching-learning process more complete, lively, colorful, and interactive. This can really contribute more lasting learning because of the visual, audio, and effects. These also make learning fun.
LESSON 11: Making the most of Community resources and Field Trips
We all that field trips bring us to the world beyond classroom; the real-world connection is more work but the benefits of broadening teaching beyond textbooks. This also have a wide range of application. This is also applicable to the higher level. These so called field trips should be planned ahead of time. This can nurture curiosity; build a zest for new experience, and a sense of wonder.
LESSON 14: Maximize the use of the Overhead Projector and the Chalkboard
This is very useful especially in the remote areas or those who have not been reached by electricity. Most schools are not blessed as the others. Others may have at least one computer but teachers may not have been trained to use it. As a result they have to use the most available classroom equipment and the overhead projector which has become quite popular in schools.
