Lesson 7
Direct Purposeful Experiences and Beyond
In this lesson, I have learned that direct experiences are considered as our firsthand experiences that serve as the foundation of our learning. If there are direct experiences, there are also indirect experiences or the so called vicarious experiences. Direct experiences lead us to concept formation and abstraction which gives as idea or stock knowledge about a certain thing. We should realized that we must not end up our lessons knowing only the concrete, instead, we must go deeper for us to be able to manifest or gain the knowledge that we what to acquire from that certain thing or situation. In that case, we can now reach the level of abstraction that we‘ve wanted to have.
Lesson 8
Teaching the Contrived Experiences
We all know that contrived experiences are substitutes of real things when it is not feasible to bring the real thing to the class. These include models, mock ups, specimens, objects, simulations and games. The very important thing that we have to remember when using models and mock ups is that we have to make them as close as we could to the real things they represent. If one can’t replicate the real things in size and color, then we should at least caution the user or the reader by giving them the scale.
Lesson 9
Teaching with Dramatized Experiences
In this lesson, there were lots of things we can learn, one of those is that, we can learn about the different kinds of attitudes in conducting a play, pageant, pantomime, tableau, puppets and role-playing. The last four I have mentioned above are the most commonly used in the classroom due to their simplicity and practicality. Role playing, aside from its effectiveness in the classroom, also contribute effectiveness in the real life situations. Dramatic experiences also cater to students’ multiple intelligences. By using all of those, we can be able to compete to whatever field we will be in in the future. This would lead us to the fulfillment of our dreams and would help us discover our capacity of learning not only in the academic but also in the other curricular activities that we have in our school.
Lesson 10
Demonstrations in Learning
This lesson is somewhat like very important in the field of teaching. If we don’t have this, we can’t be able to teach our students well. We can’t be able to share our learnings to them and most especially we can’t be able to be called as “teacher”.
We future educators must instill in our minds the importance of demonstration. A good demonstration is an audio-visual presentation. It is not also enough that the teacher talks. To be effective, our demonstration must be accompanied by some visuals. To plan and prepare adequately for a demonstration, we have to determine first our goals, the materials we need, our steps, and then rehearse.
Lesson 11
Making the Most of Community Resources and Field Trips
Because of the high technology, the fare of transportations also is increasing. And by that, we people can’t now afford travelling in different places whatever we wanted to go. In school, we cannot also afford to have field trips as one of the requirements in learning because it is very expensive. They also acquire much time for preparation and planning. However, considering the intensity and the extent of concrete experiences that come through field trips, we are encouraged to use them ONLY, if there is no other less expensive but equally effective instructional tool. Preparation and planning for the field trip includes discussions and decisions on what to do before the field trip, during the field trip and after the field trip.
